December 2017 saw the orchestral peremieres of our Musical Myths series with a tour of sold-out concerts around the UK.

The Orchestra of Opera North performed our re-working of Cinderella in Leeds and Huddersfield, while the Southbank Sinfonia partnered CBeebies star Pui Fan Lee for performances of The Nutcracker at Saffron Hall and the Brighton Dome.  Pui also joined the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for further performances of The Nutcracker at The Lighthouse in Poole.

The pre-concert photo on the left shows Emily Woodard's fantastic title illustration for The Nutcracker over the stage in Brighton.

Lovely reviews from the Bournemouth Echo and The Latest Brighton for our Nutcracker show!

"The first half of the programme consisted of extracts from Tchaikovsky’s famous Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, from the elegant Waltz of the Flowers to the exciting Russian Dance – each piece instantly recognisable. CBeebies presenter, Pui Fan Lee, was the perfect narrator for the younger members of the audience, accompanied by wonderful imagery on the big screen created by Emily Carew Woodard.  All in all it was an evening of irresistible nostalgia."

"CBeebies presenter Pui Fan Lee’s narration of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker was perfectly soothing for young children.  The Southbank Sinfonia orchestra, conducted by Ben Palmer, added powerful musical depth to the story's beautifully illustrated visual backdrop."
